BPC stands for Body Protection Compound. BPC-157 is a 15 amino acid fragment of a larger protein sequence found in gastric juice. It is produced synthetically for research use and supplied as a lyophilised powder.
The compound is notably stable in aqueous solution compared with many peptides of similar length, which is part of why it appears so often in preclinical protocols.
The published body of work on BPC-157 is overwhelmingly preclinical: rodent and in vitro models examining tendon, ligament, muscle and gastrointestinal tissue. Reviews describe investigation into angiogenic signalling and cytoprotection as the proposed mechanisms under study.

TB-500 is a synthetic fragment associated with thymosin beta-4 and is studied via actin binding pathways, whereas BPC-157 research centres on angiogenic and cytoprotective signalling.
